A Week in Germany

It was only a few years ago that I discovered that I had some German Heritage. Just think, all those years joining in with all of the other guys down the pub singing stupid chants as we beat the Germans 5-1, and I was one of them! Of course, all of that down the pub was just a bit of fun, and I was quite excited to think that I wasn’t just another boring Brit!

It occurred to me a few years later that I really knew nothing about the country at all, and I had never even been there. That year I persuaded my wife that it would be a great place for a holiday. I immediately looked on the internet to see where we could go and I came across some Frankfurt flights. From what I had previously found out, this is where my German family had lived so it would be great to see it.

When we arrived in Frankfurt I immediately liked it. It was full of grand high rise skyscrapers and it didn’t seem like the Germany I had pictured in my head at all. It turned out to be a very cultured place indeed with a vibrant night life and a real continental city feel to it. It certainly was not all Frankfurter sausages, although I did try a few and they were out of this world! I didn’t find out too much about my heritage, but I did discover a lovely European City that I would happily return to.
