Accept The Cultural Differences
When it comes to travel, sure, there are some of us who go for the beach, some go for business, some go to spend all afternoon sat around the hotel pool and then there are some of us who go to experience different cultures. For the culture seeker, travel is much more than a holiday. Travel is about learning an entirely new way of life and way of doing things. Lots of cultural travellers often seek to study the language of the country as well of the method of doing things.
For me, learning to speak the language of the country your in should be a priority. If you’re in France, learn French. If you’re in Spain, learn spanish. Not only is it handy to speak the language around town in order to get where you want to be or get what you need, it is also extremely respectful to the hosts of the country you are in.
Of course, learning a new language is not just for the cultural traveller. You may want to learn a language such as Spanish just to order food or drink at the bar or deal with a shop owner. Learning a language does not mean learning it inside out. Learning the odd phrase will certainly go down well also.
